Today was beautiful was a warm clear sky day with minimal wind, so why stay inside and waste away? I got geared up and headed out and it's been my first time out in a month and it was a blast. I don't do well with the cold so I need to buy some winter gear. I rode a few miles and ended my route with a flat straight to get back home, limit is 25mph but I don't have computers so I just ride free with no care in the world. I give it one last good push before the ride is over and fly, right when I hit the corners there's a cop car that passes me and I'm thinking nothing of it. Flips his lights on and I thought... is he pulling me over? So I slow down and stop and he stops and gets out and starts walking my way. I'm thinking, what did I do? He starts with the hey how you doings, and asks if I knew why he stopped me. "I have no clue." This is when he hits me with, "Got you going 30 in a 25, I was behind you for the whole straight." No fucking way... Seriously? He laughed and said, "I didn't even know there were cyclists around here!" (I live in a little poor town, the cyclist population is one, me.) He got into how he just bought a bike to ride for some fun and asked if he could tag along some time, so the population is now two. Told me stay safe and have a good ride, and we parted ways. Edit: I didn't even think about at least getting a written warning, I totally missed out!!! Holy crap guys silver? Thank you!

The stories of conflicts with car drivers are sadly getting way too frequent on this sub but I feel like I need to add mine too. Entering a small town in my area, there is a single file road without any bike lane on one mile where cars cannot overtake each other and barely cyclists. It's usually not an issue as it is limited to 30mph and the road is totally flat, so no cars should need to overtake me on a good day (or that's what I'd like to think huhu). Still, approaching the traffic light at the end of this road two cars pass me by quite closely, I just node in disbelief knowing I'll be passing them 10sec later. But as I'm going to pass the last car at the red light, the guy tries to block the right side of the road. I just go left, he tries to do the same but the car in front of him is too close and prevents him to do so. I don't even look at him as I keep going. The light goes green, he overtakes me but slows at my pace to talk some bullshit. I just tell him that I couldn't care less and he should just keep driving, ofc he insults me (sic...) and finally starts going as I give him the middle finger he was looking for. As I think it is finished and he's finally leaving me be, he just parks quickly quite in the middle of the road and comes out of the car towards me. I realize I will not have time nor space to pass him this time and I just stop at the level of his rear door (driver's side). He comes at me and asks me what I said, which is actually nothing. I was ready to block a few blows (well as ready as you can be with a bike between your legs and clipless shoes...) But he seemed to not know what more to say so I just tell him that he looked in a hurry a few seconds ago so he should just keep going. He insults me again a few times and finally goes away as the cars behind start honking. ​ Now that I got the story out, I think I can learn and share a few points from the mistakes I did, to prevent anything from happening in the course of such events. First I could have just stopped behind him at the red light, it's very tempting to show a moron that you're smarter than him, but it's probably smarter to not trigger him at all and well... giving him the finger wasn't smart at all, even though I think I was more than patient with him overall. Secondly, I should have stopped way further behind his car as soon as I noticed he was stopping to come out, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have left his car in the middle of the road and come up close if I had been 30 or 40 feet away. Thirdly, I always carry a pepper spray in my back pocket for that kind of situation (which I have gladly never needed so far), I should have used it right away when he was coming at me, but I just didn't think I'd need it in the heat of the moment, which in perspective was pretty dumb, a guy who comes out of his car is very likely to be aggressive and dangerous. Lastly, even though not much happened in the end, I'm a bit wary of using that road again, despite having ridden it thousands of times, I think I'll try to ride it again asap just to take the feeling of that small aggression away. ​ Thanks for reading and stay safe out there, lunatics are everywhere. Also I'd be more than happy to get everyone's tips to avoid that kind of situation.
