Something I learned the hard way, years into cycling. I'll sweat buckets if I'm on a trainer or spin bike where airflow isn't the greatest and helmets are never worn. I didn't really have issues on road or gravel rides though where sweat would get into my eyes. The airflow was usually good enough to prevent it altogether. If it was hot and humid, a quick wipe of the brow would work and even if sweat did get into my eyes, it usually wasn't bad. Not until one day where I found myself in a specific set of conditions. I took a gamble one morning and decided to commute with potential rain in the forecast. It would be a close call looking at the radar and I thought I could beat the rain, I did not this time. I was almost at work when the skies opened up with a light to steady, soaking type rain. Nothing crazy or dangerous really but the typical soaking from the bottom up started happening from the tire spray (no fenders on this bike). Getting soaked isn't a big deal. My commute routine is setup for this scenario which involved a shower upon arrival and a change into clean work clothes stocked each week while driving in on Mondays. So at this point, still no issues aside from putting soggy cycling gear back on for the commute home. But then, those tiny, little, seemingly insignificant strips of padding that are scarcely attached to tiny bits of Velcro to line my helmet started to get saturated. The salt from a hundred rides over thousands of miles was finally freed from their anti-microbial prison it had been confined to, patiently waiting for their opportunity to escape. The day has come, and they now had one mission to complete, attack the eyes. In a matter of seconds I went from, "This is actually kind of nice riding in a steady rain!" To "MOTHER OF GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY EYES!" with such a sharp stinging sensation that I've never felt before. I pulled over immediately into a parking lot and ripped my helmet off. I then spent a minute or two flushing my eyes with water from my bottle until I could muscle enough effort to open them up. After some time, the extreme stinging subsided and I had then realized what happened. I ripped the pads out and threw them into my backpack and spent the rest of my water bottle on the interior of the helmet and completed the last two to three miles of my commute to work. So wash those helmet pad strips! I usually throw them in when I wash the gloves usually every other week/150ish miles of saddle time. **TL;DR** : Got caught in the rain. Helmet pads soaked with water, released the fury of salt from hundreds of rides into my eyes.

Edit: I had 1 front light and 1 rear light which was flashing, both of the lights were on max power. I don't know why so many people assuming that I must have not had any lights. I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't have any lights. Anyway, thanks for all the advice and support. Title, I got roped into working some overtime and had to cycle home (10 miles) from work at 7pm. Road was surprisingly busy for the time. 2 minutes in and I notice that a car is right behind me (everything around me is so bright because of the headlights), the car over takes me and mere seconds later, I feel a force hit me, in the split second of lucidity I have I assume that I'm finished and start screaming. A moment later and I'm rolling around on the road, I get up (still screaming) and try to catch the drivers numberplate, thankfully he stopped, a few others cars stop and calm me down, I try laying down but fuck my left leg is hurting so bad. Thankfully everything from that point onwards goes great, the driver doesn't stop apologising, an off duty police officer stops by and advises us on what to do (I had no idea and I couldn't think straight) and a retired doctor stops by too (I'm not making this up). I don't know exactly I got hit but in retrospect I think I might have gotten hit by the car BEHIND the car that I noticed had very bright lights, I don't know... Currently sitting in a hospital bed right now, thankfully nothing is broken but I have a 2cm deep gash in my leg where my bike break handle ended up impaling me and a lot cuts along my elbow where the car drivers wing mirror smacked me, on top of grazes over my back, knees and hands I am extremely thankful that I got off so lightly this time, Ive heard so many horror stories of cyclists suffering broken bones, missing teeth and of course death. But I'm also really disappointed, disappointed that it only took 4 months for me to end up in an accident like this. Since I started cycling, I had always assumed that I'd eventually end up in an accident, but I thought it'd be atleast 5 years away and it'd be entirely my fault. But I don't think this was my fault at all (I was just cycling in a string line, whrt could I ha e done other than wear more high vis?) and it was only 4 months... I love cycling, commuting via cycling makes my long days in the office bearable, but now I feel like it's only a matter of time before I end up severely injured. Thoughts?

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, we pledged to donate $10 for each of the first 500 riders who completed a Ride for Gratitude Challenge to Silver Stallion Bicycle and Coffee Works. Thanks to your outstanding participation, we hit our goal in the first week! With half of November still to go, our friends at SRAM generously offered to match our $5,000 donation if we can get 200 riders to ride 100 miles by the end of the month! That’s 100 miles total, not all at once. Silver Stallion is a small nonprofit bicycle recyclery based in Gallup, NM, serving Dinétah (the Navajo Nation) and the surrounding communities with a mission to empower and develop youth and young adult vocational skills in the bicycle repair and specialty coffee industries.

Hallo, ich fahre aktuell mit nem Pedelec durch die Gegend mit ner Bosch Purion Bedieneinheit. Die ist ansich ganz nett nur zeigt sie keine Uhrzeit an. Smartphone Halter finde ich doof und lenkt mich nur ab. Gibt es da ein Modell was die Zeit digital anzeigt und nicht nach 3h und ein bisschen Regen seinen Dienst aufgibt? Oder sollte ich mir einfach einen billigen Tacho mit der Funktion kaufen? Meine Recherche war bisher etwas frustrierend da riesen Auswahl gibt, alles gleich aussieht und überall in den Bewertungen geschrieben wird das es sich Schrott handele. I'm not sure if I am just lost typing here, but I thought I would try. I want to buy myself an electronic bicycle but I honestly can't quite tell where to start. I see sizes, and bicycle type like Trekking, Tour or Urban and different types of motors, but it's very difficult to tell how to know if I am getting what I should for my money. Could anyone help me? I'm looking for an E-Bike to go to work with (45 min~) and to go in longer tour, both on normal cycling lane and in forest/hills trails. I have a 2000-2500€ budget. I don't know what other information actually matter so feel free to ask. Thank you.
