I love that a lot of people are new cyclists and getting into riding bikes, but I also have been noticing that this sub has been inundated with a lot of the same questions, with seemingly very little research. Example question types: "recommend me a bike", "What type of bike is right for me?", "Is it normal for me to have numbness while riding", "Do you think I can ride 629,384,765 miles/km tomorrow, even though the most I've ridden so far is down the block to the corner store?", "Why is everything sold out right now in 2020?" Given the size of this sub, and the current boom that cycling is having, I believe that some kind of a pinned wiki with peer-reviewed answers (so nobody is spouting some bullshit that leads to injuries or bad purchasing decisions [or both]) that address a lot of these types of questions will be a great resource to both new and seasoned cyclists. I am, of course, willing to contribute what little knowledge I have picked up from my personal experiences working in a co-op and riding, googling, and youtubing. My name is u/SCMSuperSterling, and thanks for listening to my Ted talk. EDIT: Just wanted to add this in. My suggestion is not that we limit or censor people from posting questions. Just saying that if there is a centralized resource for commonly asked questions, we can gently guide users via a link to the resource to help them out. Some are arguing, "Ain't nobody got time to read a whole thing". That's fair. Don't read the whole thing, just read the section that pertains to your question. That would be a greater time savings than reading through a bunch of comments that may not be helpful to you, or waiting on comments to come through. EDIT 2: okay, seems like this a no go. Worst comes to worst, I can start a google doc that we can build up, and submit to u/LukeWarmCage for approval, and maybe see if we can get it stickied or something.

Upping the game and setting a challenge for myself

So I've been riding for years... a little. Since the pandemic started I've been doing more (the benefit of not spending 3 hours a day going to and from the office) which means I'm getting out 2-3 times a week. This past weekend, I decided to set myself a challenge. Take 25 rides between now and Labour Day (September 7th for the non-North Americans out there). Today I completed ride #2 (20.48km in 52 min before work). They don't have to be long rides, they don't have to be fast rides, they just have to be rides. I think I'm setting myself a minimum floor of 20 minutes or 5km (for which I'd have to be extremely slow). I expect most will be in the 10-20km range which is where I'm most comfortable. The only reason I'm announcing this here is for accountability. It's harder to walk away when people know you're doing it. I expect I'll make occasional updates as we go. Let's see if I can establish a new habit, just in time for it to get cold! Edit: Wow! Look at all the nice, supportive people! Thanks everyone!

I've been cycling for about 2 times recently, around the town for an hour or almost 2 hours. I get so exhausted even when I've only been on my bike for less than 8 minutes, then I'd take a breather, drink water, then go again, break, go again, break, go again. I'm just heavy, imo. Or my legs, my core and my arms got so weak after 6+ years of never lifting weights or exercising. Or I'm just weak in general coz I'm a female My dad bought me a new bike few days ago, bought me a helmet too, told me to use this as a "therapy" for my depression and my suicide ideation. I just wanna know if, the more I ride my bike, can my fatigue go away? How can i be less exhausted? How can I even ride a bike? What should I do? I'm 21, last time I rode a bike was when I barely 12.. Thank you..

(Kauf-)beratung für 1x11-Umbau

Moin, ich hoffe, dass mir hier jemand etwas Beratung zum Umbau meines Trekking-Rads auf 1x11 helfen kann. Das Subreddit scheint mir zur Fahrradtechnik ja sehr kompetent zu sein. Erstmal zur Intention des Umbaus. Ich fahre quasi 90% der Zeit in der mittleren Kasette (36 Zähne) und schalte Selten auf das 48er-Kettenblatt hoch. Mein 26er-Kettenblatt hab ich quasi nie wirklich gebraucht. Ich denke mit 11-42 hinten und 40 Zähnen vorne, kann ich alles für mich abdecken. Zusätzlich dazu ist meinerseits ein gewisses technisches Interesse vorhanden und ich würd das gerne einfach mal machen. Mein aktueller Plan ist es also, ein **Upgrade-Kit für Shimano SLX 1x11** zu kaufen, in dem eine neue Kasette, Schaltwerk, Schalthebel und Kette enthalten ist. Meine **aktuelle vordere Kurbel-Garnitur ist eine Shimano Altus FC-M371C** mit fest vernieteten Kettenblätern. Daher muss auch eine neue Kurbel her. So wie ich das beurteilen kann, gibt es keine passenden Kurbeln, die auf mein aktuelles Vierkant-Lager passen. Ich kauf also eine **Shimano GRX Kurbelgarnitur FC-RX600-1**-Kurbel mit 40 Zähnen und ein neues Lager **Shimano Tiagra Innenlager BB-RS500 Hollowtech II**. Meine Fragen zum Setup: - Passt das zusammen? - Muss ich dazu an meinem Rahmen noch was beachten? - Gibt es eventuell eine günstigere Lösung für eine Kurbel vorne (sollte mindestens 36 Zähne haben)? Vielen Dank für Antworten und Vorschläge! Bei Interesse kann ich den Umbau gerne dokumentieren.
