I Finally Hit 4w per kg!

Just finished my first proper FTP test (finally got a power meter for Christmas) and I scored 234w FTP. I weighed in this morning at 58kg (before you ask, i'm 16), which puts me at 4w per kilo! Im sorry if it sounds like i'm bragging but i'm just so excited I wanted to share it with someone (don't have any cyling buddies, all my rides are solo) I have only been riding for about a year now with little structured training, just been following the rule of high intensity rides during the week, long endurance rides on the weekend. I have also just recently started racing in my local crits (only two so far) and haven't been dropped yet which has made it really fun. That's all, again i'm sorry if it sounds like i'm bragging but I just wanted to share my achievement.

New year, be me, right? While getting back into riding some when I upgraded last summer from a vintage bike, and had car troubles, I realized the value of cycling for my physical and mental health. I’d ride local greenways and commute some, as well as try to beat my Strava times. Fast forward to not riding in Nov. and Dec. and starting the year with my first FTP test. A small one but at least a starting point at 124. At 97kg, that’s not even on the scale of decent power output. That’s ok though, I know if I keep riding and working on it, my power will go up and weight will go down. I hope this simple recognition (even just for myself) that cycling isn’t all about wattage will be freeing and allow the full joy of cycling to hold strong.

Hi cycling! I'm just beginning to get routine exercise in my life for the first time in many years because I have no choice but to use my MTB to get around (I loathe public transport haha) and I'm finding every day my cycling is getting less difficult. I weigh 148kg (326lb) and I realize my weight is a huge difficulty for my riding joy, especially up hills, and somewhat due to wind resistance. This morning I have a fasting blood test booked, and I had to cycle to get here. Having had no food for 14 hours I thought I'd feel terrible, but having only had a glass of water in the morning, I actually feel great right now. It's strange. I've never felt good about exercise, and I guess that's why I've avoided it for so long. If any of you have children, please make sure you do everything you can to empower them and make them feel good about themselves. I was bullied in school and my father was abusive, and he cycled to work every day. I love cycling, but I think my aversion to exercise of any sort, and my lack of self confidence and worth, came from my childhood of abuse. It set me up to become obese and care little for myself as a person. I've only just begun to face my past with a therapist. Have a great day and a great life! Edit: spelling
