I've ditched my car for an ebike

I'll be commuting twice a week (1hr each way) And cycling to my other jobs which are all short local rides I'll be cycling on countryside roads in Somerset UK The amount of money I'll save will be significant I'll also be environmentally friendly 😊 Is this a good decision? Any tips or advice?

Rant: Ein Transporter hat gestern mein Fahrrad demoliert ...

Ich muss mal ranten, sorry. Niemand verletzt aber ich reg mich tierisch auf. Bin gestern mit dem Fahrrad zum Sportplatz in einer lokalen Grünanlage gefahren. Neben der Sportanlage war ein privates Fest offenbar von einem Verein oder so. Um 23 Uhr wurde abgebaut. Ein Transporter Van brauchte wohl Teile des Fests aus der die Grünanlage / Fußgängerzone, in der auch mein Rad an einem Radständer angeschlossen stand. Offenbar war dem/der Fahrer\*in die Ausfahrt zu eng, auch weil in der Ausfahrt mehrere Autos im absoluten Halteverbot standen oder weil das ein oder andere Bier zu viel war. Jedenfalls fuhr der Wagen durch und über mein am Radständer angeschlossenes Fahrrad. Dabei wurde mein Hinterrad völlig zerstört und es ist weiterer Schaden am Antrieb entstanden. Hoffe der Rahmen ist nicht auch verzogen. Aufgrund des sehr lauten Geräusches durch das Biegen und Brechen meines armes Rades bin ich während meiner Übungen aufgeschreckt und bin circa 20 / 25m zum Umfallort gelaufen. Trotz meiner lauten Rufe und des offensichtlichen Geräusches der Zerstörung hielt der / die Fahrer\*in nicht an. Eine kurze Verfolgung musste ich einstellen, da der Wagen schneller war als ich (sehr schnell für die engen Straßen am Stadion). Mehrere Zeugen haben leider das Kennzeichen genau so wenig erkennen können wie ich. Vom Straßenfest kannte angeblich niemand den Transporter (zweifelhaft, aber nicht überraschend). Ich habe die 110 gerufen, aber der Streifenwagen konnte mich nicht finden, nach 2 Stunden Wartezeit habe ich mit der 110 verständigt online Anzeige gegen unbekannt zu stellen. Ich ärger mich so, dass ich nicht mehr gesprintet bin oder keine Telefon aus dem Rucksack genommen habe um ein Bild vom Auto zu machen. So ein scheiß Aktion. Hatte gerade Blatt und Ritzel erneuert und jetzt sitze ich auf dem Schaden, der sicher einfacher Haftpflicht fall gewesen wäre und vermutlich nicht mal den Abschlag erhöht hätte...

Heute mal wieder nur ne kurze Stammrunde um den See gedreht, zuerst hat sich ein Rentner komplett in seiner Hundeleine verheddert, und dann hat mir ein 50 jähriger mit hochrotem kopf etwas erzählt...was hat er gesagt, fragt ihr? Ich weiß es nicht, ich hab London calling gehört und gelächelt. ​ Mir ist wichtig dazu zu sagen, dass ich jeden Fußgänger dieselben geringen motorischen und kognitiven Fähigkeiten wie nem 90 jährigen zutraue, also bei erster Sichtung wird gebimmelt (30€ Klingel von Crane, extra ausgewählt um Laut aber nicht einschüchternd zu sein) und dann beobachtet. dann wird nochmal gebimmelt wenn man so 8m entfernt ist, und Geschwindigkeit angepasst, dass man zur Not einfach sofort zum Stillstand kommt. So hat man dann auch Gelegenheit, die Leute nett anzulächeln, während sie Ihre Tirade vom Stapel lassen, und dann, wenn der Mund sich nicht mehr bewegt, freundlich zu sagen "Hab ich nicht gehört, schönen Feiertag"

Rode my first fifty miler today...

And it hurt. Took me 5:15, 4:25 of which was moving. I normally ride much shorter distances (and mostly on dirt), but I've been riding some pavement recently to work on conditioning, 15-20 mile stretches. 30 has been about my max before the legs are cooked and the body aches, but for some reason when I rolled out the door this morning I was feeling good and just kinda kept going. It was fun. I'd like to do it again, I think I've got the legs for a century, but if I'm gonna try then I've got to make some changes to [this bike](https://imgur.com/OS3ME1B) (yeah, I know. No space or money for N+1 so it is what it is). The neck pain started at about twenty miles. I was able to deal with that by taking breaks every so often, but then the small of my back started to ache, and then at about 35 miles my hips and sit bones started yelling and didn't stop. Do those three together suggest any one or two small changes I could make to the bike setup, or is this just a condition issue and I need to do more planks? I'm currently set up with all the headset spacers, a 7* stem and bars with a slight rise and sweep to them. I have a set of bar ends inboard of the grips that give me some extra hand positions that aren't so wide, and they help a lot. My seat is roughly level with the bars. I could find a shorter stem and/or bars with more rise that might shorten the reach and help with the neck/back pain, but wouldn't that put more weight on my sit bones? Not sure which way to go here. I suppose I could get more pics of the bike or how I sit it if that would help.

Moin. Meine Freundin hatte heute einen Sturz im Straßenverkehr, weil ein Autofahrer die Tür, ohne zu schauen, geöffnet hat. Sie hat ein blutigen Ellenbogen und Abschürfungen am Handgelenk. Ist jetzt relativ harmlos. Dennoch fragen wir uns jetzt, ob sie besser morgen zum Arzt geht, um das einmal diagnostizieren zu lassen. Falls sie Spätfolgen hat, dass wir uns beim Fahrer melden können. Adresse haben wir. Und bin ich zu kleinlich, wenn wir den neuen Fahrradcomputer, von ihm ersetzen lassen. Der hat jetzt an den Ecken tiefe Kratzer - Funktion und Display sind nicht betroffen. I ride to work a couple times a week (10 miles each way, 300 foot elev. gain). There is a 1 mile stretch about 6 1/2 miles in on the ride home. This stretch has a slight incline, 46 foot elev. gain, and this morning I finally accomplished my goal of clearing that stretch in under 4 minutes. I ride a cannondale quick 6. It's the small accomplishments that make it worthwhile.

Habt ihr vllt. ein paar Tipps worauf man achten sollte? Ein paar Gedanken: Wie ist die Qualität der Räder bzw. welchen Preis sollte ich einkalkulieren um was ordentliches zu bekommen? Ich würde lieber etwas mehr zahlen als auf einem Schrottbike durch die Gegend gondeln 😁 Wie läuft das mit der Leihe? Wir sind in einem Hotel im Norden der Insel Nähe Alcudia und haben dort kein Auto. Muss ich dann mit Bus oder Taxi los? Oder gibt's Leih-Lieferservice? Ganz blöde Frage: wenn man ein Rennrad leiht, bringt man dann seine eigenen Pedalen mit? Und schließlich: wie ist das mit der Sicherheit auf den Straßen? Wovon sollte man sich fernhalten? Und gibt's irgendwelche Anfängerfehler die man vermeiden sollte? Danke für eure Hinweise 😊
